The Mtwara Regional Commissioner, Colonel Ahmed Abbas, has called upon all stakeholders involved in the value chain of the cashew crop in the country to manage the quality of the crop in marketing and transportation in order to increase its value in the country and abroad.
Colonel Abbas said this in October, 2023 at a meeting with all stakeholders held in Mtwara Regional Hall, where he has asked the Cashew Board, cooperatives unions and registrar to manage the quality of the cashew crop from the farmer until it reaches the market.
In addition, he has asked the exporters and buyers to use the remaining time before the season to adjust the contracts which are basically the ones that will ensure the safety and quality of the product.
Adding emphasis, the Director General of the Tanzanian Cashew Board, Francis Alfred has urged stakeholders to consider the quality control management guidelines for raw cashews for the 2023/2024 season in order to maintain the value of our cashews in the world market.
In addition, Mr Francis has also warned stakeholders to comply with the instructions contained in the manual and insist that warehouse operators have qualified personnel who have been trained and obtain a license for the job and if it is found that the warehouse operator uses any unqualified person, he will be liable to pay a fine of shillings 500,000 and 1,500,000 both.
